La Clinica del Pueblo

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

Our History

The clinic began in 2016 by Dr. Judith Alvarez, who through her work with Valley Settlement, discovered that many immigrant women were not receiving any medical care. Lack of access was due to a lack of trust in government funded institutions, language barriers and low incomes. Alvarez, a licensed Doctor in her country of origin, understood the importance of health equity and access. While teaching the first Spanish language Cooking Matters classes, Dr. Alvarez began talking with her students about their primary care and realized she could make a difference.

Judith enlisted the help of Valley Settlement, Dr Lintner and volunteers from Mountain Family Health Center for a Saturday morning clinic once a month. As word of mouth grew, so did demand. In 2020 Dr. Feinsinger, a retired family physician, and Dr. Alvarez joined forces in the Third Street Center, where La Clinica del Pueblo is still located. Through the generosity of two individual families, and Dr. Feinsinger’s volunteering, La Clinica expanded, providing patient hours during the week and two Saturdays a month.

Current Clinic

La Clinica del Pueblo is in an exciting time of growth. With support from the Colorado Health Foundation, La Clinica is expanding again. Remodeling a larger space at the Third Street Center and providing additional services, allows access to health and education for many. The key to this growth is the addition of Jenny Lang N.P. and added hours for Dr. Alvarez. In addition to its focus on lifestyle changes to improve chronic health conditions, primary care for any uninsured families is available. All staff are Spanish speaking, and fees are based on ability to pay. Services are provided free of charge to those that cannot pay. Supplemental services such as Shop with a Doc and plant based cooking classes are offered throughout the year. With the transition, La Clinica is adding behavioral health services as funds are obtained.

We cannot provide the services we do without the generous support of:

After retiring he began doing pro bono work through his non-profit Center for Prevention and Treatment of Disease Through Nutrition, and later with Dr. Judith Alvarez La Clinic del Pueblo.

As his career wound down, he started promoting a plant-based, low-fat diet and providing free counseling on heart attack prevention.

Dr. Chris Miller
Dr. Chris MillerBoard Member
Christina Miller, MD, FACEP, is double-board-certified in emergency and integrative medicine. After spending over ten years in the emergency department and serving as president of Colorado ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians), she radically changed her practice, due to her health concerns and being overwhelmed by the amount of chronic disease and illness seen in the ED. She studied nutritional science, completed a fellowship in integrative medicine and functional medicine, and now uses nutrition and lifestyle changes to get to the root cause of disease and illness while promoting wellness and longevity in each individual. Instead of treating emergencies in the ED, she is now helping to prevent and reverse chronic illnesses and empower people to live with health and vitality.

She currently lives in Carbondale, Colorado where she is active in her community. She practices via telemedicine at Love.Life/Telehealth.
