Nutrition and Cooking Classes:
At La Clínica del Pueblo, we offer hands-on nutrition and healthy cooking classes designed to be practical, culturally relevant, and rooted in evidence-based health guidance. Led by Judith Alvarez, these classes empower participants to make lasting changes in how they eat and live.
Each class includes:
- Easy-to-make recipes tailored to the Latino community
- Education on how to read food labels, make healthy ingredient swaps, and understand how food impacts both physical and emotional health
- Tools to help prevent chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
- Printed materials and guided reflection activities to support healthier eating habits
We are also proud to collaborate with Lisa Moretti, an instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Lisa brings expertise in plant-based eating and leads in-person sessions focused on nutrition strategies for long-term wellness.
Whether you’re managing a health condition or simply want to cook and eat better for yourself and your family, these classes provide the knowledge and support to help you thrive.
Shop with a Doc
Shop with a Doc is a free, hands-on community activity led by Dr. Greg Feinsinger at City Market in Carbondale. This guided grocery store tour is educational, practical, and empowering—designed to help participants make informed and healthy food choices.
During the 60–90 minute tour, participants will learn how to:
- Read and understand nutrition labels
- Spot ingredients to avoid, such as added sugar, excess salt, and unhealthy fats
- Replace processed foods with natural, nutrient-rich alternatives
- Shop with purpose while staying on budget
Each participant receives a printed guide in Spanish filled with detailed recommendations tailored to individuals managing chronic conditions. The tour also includes helpful discussions about disease prevention, along with examples of healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack options.
This program is ideal for individuals and families looking to take small, sustainable steps toward better health—starting with what goes into the shopping cart.
